REPORT-WORKSHOP ON GESE-GRADED EXAMINATION IN SPOKEN ENGLISH
A workshop was organized by Trinity College London- an international exam board, recognized in the United Kingdom as an independent awarding body. Trinity offers regulated qualifications in English language, Music and the performing and creative arts throughout the world. It provides a reliable and valid scheme of assessment through which learners and teachers can measure progress and development, for educational and vocational purposes.
Ms. Ritika Ratna- Academic support team Member, Trinity College London conducted the workshop related to different grades of GESE i.e. 1 to 4 on 16 May, 2018 in the school activity hall to aware the teachers for training the students in the future. Around 21 teachers from Dyal Singh Public Schools participated in this workshop to enhance their knowledge regarding GESE. Various activities were conducted and videos were also shown to make teachers aware about the questions to be asked from grade 1 to 4. The series of 12 progressively graded exams is designed for speakers of languages other than English. Progress is marked by increasing evidence of the use of communicative skills, greater linguistic demands and an increasing degree of independence by the candidate to take control of the interaction.
The Resource Person Ms.Ritika Ratna engaged the teachers for about 3 hours by making the session joyful and knowledgeable. Everybody enjoyed a lot while gaining knowledge of GESE.
She also said that a major benefit of a graded exam system is that it provides a motivational tool with which to encourage learners to develop and progress by acknowledging small steps. All learners make progress at different rates, and a graded system ensure that every stage of their development there is an opportunity for them to mark that progress.
